Charlize Theron: It's tough being a 'gorgeous' actress in Hollywood

In a new interview in British GQ’s May issue, the actress, who turned 40 in August, says that being a genetically blessed actress in Tinseltown has often backfired on her.

"Jobs with real gravitas go to people that are physically right for them and that’s the end of the story,” she complained.

"How many roles are out there for the gorgeous, f**king, gown-wearing eight-foot model? When meaty roles come through, I’ve been in the room and pretty people get turned away first."

Oh, poor Charlize!

Well, the South African star has been known to alter her glam image to nab grittier roles. In 2004, she gained 30 pounds and wore prosthetics to play Aileen Wuornos in Monster, earning her an Academy Award for Best Actress.

Two years later, she earned her second Oscar nomination for her role as an iron miner in North Country. In 2015, she traded in her long blond locks for a buzzcut for Mad Max: Fury Road.

"We live in a society where women wilt and men age like fine wine," she told the mag. "And, for a long time, women accepted it. We were waiting for society to change, but now we’re taking leadership. It would be a lie to say there is less worry for women as they get older than there is for men… It feels there’s this unrealistic standard of what a woman is supposed to look like when she’s over 40."
