Is this the most awkward hug ever?

You know that awkward moment when you run into your ex in public and you're forced to say hello or even worse - give them a hug!?

Well this exact scenario went down between Charlize Theron and Sean Penn when they reunited on the red carpet in Cannes to debut their film The Last Face — a year after the Hollywood pair broke up following 2015’s fest.

They had apparently managed to dodge each other at press events leading up to the red carpet but a source at the screening told Page Six, “Sean and his cast, including Charlize, all did their group photos together on the red carpet.”

After the screening Charlize decided to be the bigger man and go say g'day to her ex - followed by the awkward kiss and hug. Eeeeek.
