Kris Smith Bought Girlfriend Maddy King A Ring...But It's Not What You Think

They set tongues wagging when they appeared at Fashion Week Australia wearing matching rings just two weeks ago but Myer model Kris Smith has revealed it's not exactly what you think.

Speaking to Yahoo7 Entertainment at the unveiling of Jaguar's new F-Pace model at a special Vivid installation in Martin Place last night, Smith gushed over model and fitness ambassador Maddy King, claiming he bought matching promise rings to show his girlfriend of three years how committed he is.

"I bought Myself and Maddy matching Cartier love rings probably about three years ago," Smith said.

"It was just as like a gap filler because marriage was always something that could be appealing to me but not front and foremost."

The 37-year-old Jaguar ambassador said Maddy "liked the idea" so gave her the ring as an "in between" relationship "filler".

"It’s a love ring, I love the girl," he said.

"She’s amazing and she loves my son more than she loves me which is the largest part of a relationship.

"I don’t care if sometimes you don’t like me but love my son 24/7 – and she does and he responds the same way."

Smith, who has waked for Myer during some of their biggest shows and has a five-year-old son, Ethan, with X Factor star Dannii Minogue, is currently on an intense diet plan where dairy, gluten, coffee and alcohol are out-of-bounds.

"Maddy’s studying nutritional medicine, she’s nearly finished and she needed a guinea pig to stop caffeine, red meat, dairy, gluten, alcohol and I was that guinea pig," Smith said, jokingly claiming he's getting through the strict regime “with a bad temper".

“A lot of them I don’t care about but I do love a beer now and again after a game of golf or when I’m watching the rugby league, I like a beer. I’m still a blokes blokes.

When it comes to his ultimate cheat meal, Kris is a big fan of the Traditional Fish & Chips shop in Bondi Junction, which serves up "Irish curry sauce, mushy peas and fish and chips".

"It’s a real taste of home. I love to let my hair down I love a balance. I still want to have a glass of wine or a few beers with dinner," he said.
