Sean Astin supports Elijah Wood on abuse claims

Actor Sean Astin has praised Elijah Wood for speaking out about child sex abuse in Hollywood.

The 45-year-old said that although neither him or Wood were abused, he knows of people who were, prompting him to support Elijah's allegations.

“It is really important to remember that human beings need support so I appreciate that Elijah with such force shared his opinion,” Astin told Confidential.

“It kick started a conversation so I am proud of my friend.”

Child star Corey Feldman, who starred in The Goonies alongside Astin, has previously spoken about being abused as a child in Hollywood.

Although Astin was not exposed to any abuse because of "protective" parents, he admits he saw Feldman go through "a really hard time".

"I didn’t know about sexual abuse with him but you could see that he was suffering and it is a helpless feeling not knowing what one can do to help. It has to be a lonely painful experience going through that," Astin says.

Last month, Wood claimed there were "organised" pedophile rings in Hollywood.

"There are a lot of vipers in this industry, people who only have their own interests in mind. There is a darkness in the underbelly — if you can imagine it, it’s probably happened," he said in an interview with UK Times.
