Former child star's chilling 'pedo ring' warning

"Parents have to be vigilant"

That is the chilling advice veteran actor and former child star Sean Astin has given to budding young stars following revelations of a major paedophile ring operating in Hollywood.

Appearing on The Morning Show, the Lord Of The Rings star revealed why he originally came out in support of his co-star Elijah Wood's comments about child abuse in the film industry.

Speaking to Larry and Kylie, the 45-year-old said he wanted to join the conversation to support his friend, Corey Feldman.

"My friend Corey Feldman, who was in The Goonies, suffered abuse in that way," he said.

"I felt like responding to it publicly because I love my buddy Corey and you see somebody suffering and you don’t really know what you can do."

The actor also offered some advice for parents of budding child actors.

"The most important thing is that parents have to be vigilant, and take responsibility for themselves and the people around them. If you’re in a workspace and you think there’s something wrong, you need to communicate," he urged.

In late may, Elijah Wood told the Sunday Times newspaper: "Clearly something major was going on in Hollywood. It was all organised. There are a lot of vipers in this industry, people who only have their own interests in mind. There is darkness in the underbelly - if you can imagine it, it's probably happened."

He has since backtracked on his claims, clarifying that they were not based on any personal knowledge.

"I had just seen a powerful documentary and I briefly spoke with the reporter about the subject, which had consequences I did not intend or expect. Lesson learned," he said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
