The stunning blonde, who is pregnant with her second child with husband Sam Worthington, has been campaigning to raise awareness about the cancer since the death of her father, Graham, in 2008.
Sharon appeared on The Morning Show with good friend Yvonne Tozzi, who beat the disease after being diagnoses in her early 40s.
As bowel cancer runs in Sharon's family, Yvonne said her children would need to get "tested regularly", something Sharon wholeheartedly agreed with.
"It's the second biggest cancer killer in Australia. It's important people are aware and some don't get symptoms," Sharon said. "We talked about it when he wasn't well and I think both of us are passionate about getting the message out there."
Sharon revealed that her husband only ended up going to the doctor because he thought he had a chest infection.
"Graham was not feeling well and he only went to the doctors because he had a bad cough and I though he had a chest infection, otherwise he wouldn't have gone," she said. "And unfortunately for him it was in the bowel and it stepped out into the liver."
Lara has spoken openly about her loss, saying her father would still be here today if only he'd been diagnosed sooner.
