'We won't do Good Charlotte past 40'

The Madden brothers – two of the nicest guys in the industry – have just told me the end is near for Good Charlotte.

Joel and Benji, 37, admitted that they probably won’t perform much after they enter their 40s.

“I can’t see us doing Good Charlotte much past 40,” Benji told me during our chat for Be.

“Joel had actually said that he didn’t think he ever wanted to make another Good Charlotte record.”

Joel admitted that when he and his brother became independent artists, they felt alive. Joel said he felt that if the duo was to record another record it would be because they wanted to and not because they were obliged to.

“I think at a certain point Good Charlotte wasn’t ours anymore,” Benji agreed. But don't worry they're doing a few more tours before they're done.

The Madden brothers grew up in a small US town with no education or contacts in the music industry.

“We came from nowhere, so to do what we did and not really know what we were doing, we were easily influenced,” Benji admitted.

As two of the nicest guys in the industry the duo said that now their hearts were in mentoring younger artists.

“[We want to] keep making sure that the music industry has some good guys in it,” Joel said. “Stick up for the little guy; for the underdogs,” Benji added.

Joel said they’ll probably do a few more tours before calling it quits as Good Charlotte.

“It was important for us to go out the way we started – on our own terms – and that was really the whole point of this record and the next record.”

Good Charlotte's latest album Youth Authority is out July 15.
