Melbourne's ‘RIP Taylor Swift’ mural got a bizarre facelift

Yesterday, a mural popped up at Melbourne’s Hosier Lane honouring the fake death of Taylor Swift.

The artwork, which was captioned incorrectly as “Taylor Smith” (probably on purpose), showed a likeness of the star alongside the epitath: “In loving memory of Taylor Smith 1989-2016”.

Underneath the picture was written: “No tags please respect the dead.”

So what does someone turn around and do? They made a mural to Harambe, the gorilla who was shot dead by US zookeepers, after a young boy fell into his enclosure.

Lushsux, who claimed to have painted the original piece, posted the changes to Instagram, captioned: ‘WHO DID THIS?!?!”

The artist told The Herald Sun that someone had Snapchatted him a still of something “crude” painted over the popstar’s mouth. So he went down to check it out.

“I went down to Hosier at around three in the morning to see if any rabid Taylor Swift fans had added to the mess,” he said. “And was greeted with a Harambe memorial instead of a Taylor Swift. Got to laugh about that I guess.”

The graffiti artist isn’t planning on restoring the mural to it’s original glory. And we don’t blame him.

The artist commented on Instagram that he had been contacted by the singer’s lawyers, who had apparently threatened legal action if it the work wasn’t removed. Guess that’s solved then.

Taylor, who is currently (alive and well) in Australia with her boyfriend Tom Hiddleston, is yet to respond to the artwork by the Melbourne graffiti artist.
