Kyly Clarke had to pay for her first date with Michael Clarke

This is proof that success doesn’t always start with smooth sailings.

Being married now for four years, with a baby girl, Michael Clarke admits his first date with Kyly Clarke was quite embarrassing.

Michael Clarke spoke to Kyle and Jackie O on KIIS FM and admitted that his first date with Kyly in 2010 was a disaster.

The famous cricket player said he forgot his wallet and so she had to pay for the whole thing.

“I’m a big believer in the man paying,” he told the radio hosts, so it wasn’t ideal.

For their first date the couple went for coffee, but Michael doesn’t drink coffee so he got a milkshake and food instead – with no wallet in tow.

“I thought she was going to think it was the old, ‘I forgot my wallet’ tactic. I was so embarrassed,” he confessed in the interview.

Kyly reminds him that she paid for their first date still today.

A year-and-a-half later the couple got married in the Blue Mountains, so the missing wallet saga obviously wasn’t a deal breaker.

In November the couple welcomed their first baby – daughter Kelsey Lee – into the world.

The couple hopes to add to their broad one day.
