Harrison Ford could have been killed on Star Wars set, court hears

Harrison Ford was struck by Millenium Falcon's hydraulic door on the Star Wars set in June 2014 and was airlifted to hospital for surgery.

Now a court in Britain has said that the door “could have killed somebody” according to a statement.

Prosecutor Andrew Marshall talked about how dangerous the door was during a hearing at Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court.

The prosecutor said someone could have been fatally injured by the door had an emergency stop button not been pushed according to a statement.

Britain’s Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said that Harrison suffered from a broken leg and other injuries after being struck by the metal object.

“During the filming of Star Wars Episode Seven: The Force Awakens, the actor Harrison Ford was badly injured after he became trapped under a rapidly closing metal-framed door. The power of the door’s drive system was comparable to the weight of a small car,” a spokesman said for HSE.

The spokesman revealed that it was a foreseeable incident and that the production company involved has accepted it’s fault in failing to protect staff on set.

“The British film industry has a world renowned reputation for making exceptional films. Managing on-set risks in a sensible and proportionate way for all actors and staff – regardless of their celebrity status – is vital to protecting both on-screen and off-screen talent, as well as protecting the reputation of the industry,” the spokesperson said.
