Jessica Mauboy stars in The Secret Daughter sneak peek

Channel 7 have aired a sneak peek of Jessica Mauboy's new series The Secret Daughter.

The songstress takes on some classic hits in the trailer, putting her own spin on songs from The Clash, Crowded House and Cold Chisel. The series preview also features Jessica's new single Risk It.

It's Jessica's first lead role in a drama series, having previously starred in The Sapphires and Bran Nue Dae.

INXS musician Kirk Pengilly also makes a cameo in the series, as a talent agent who approaches Jessica's character Billie Carter, after a performance in a local pub.

Jessica began filming the series earlier this year in parts of Sydney and in country New South Wales.

The 27-year-old celebrated her birthday last week by unveiling the track listing for her new album of original and cover songs from the television drama.

As well as Risk It, Jessica also has three other new tracks - Closer, Home To Me and Stuck In The Middle.

She also takes on some classic rock hits including Cold Chisel’s Flame Trees, Crowded House’s Better Be Home Soon, The Clash’s Should I Stay Or Should I Go, Roxette’s It Must Have Been Love, Ed Sheeran’s Photograph and Alex Lloyd’s Amazing.

The new series also stars former Home and Away actress Bonnie Sveen, Erin Holland, Colin Friels, Salvatore Coco and Terry Serio.

The Secret Daughter will air after the Rio Games.
