Ricky Gervais calls Sunrise reporter a ‘hobo’

Just like his character David Brent in "The Office", Ricky Gervais has no filter.

And appearing on Sunrise this morning to promote his new movie, David Brent: Life on The Road, the comedian stuck it to the unsuspecting reporter with both barrels.

“The film is about how the world’s changed behind his back,” says the 55-year-old before turning his attention to the interviewer. “We all change in 15 years - look at you with your fancy shirt and beard. You were like a hobo when I first met you.

Harsh!

He also chatted about why he's NEVER been Down Under, explaining, “It’s on my bucket list. I can’t wait to go. I keep getting offers of tours and everything – there’s always something.

“[But] You need a few weeks to get to Australia and do stuff, I can’t just pop there for the weekend – I suppose I could, but most of that would be on the plane and we’d have to turn back again.”

However, appearing on Sunday Night recently, Ricky gave a very different explanation.

"You've got the most dangerous spiders...snakes…jellyfish, sharks, and you walk around in flip-flops!” he said. "Honestly, you're not selling it to me."

Anyway, back to the movie, which picks up 15 years on from The Office.

David has left his office days behind to become a travelling salesman, as well as an aspiring rock star with his band Foregone Conclusion. And the star talked to ''Sunrise" about how the movie would be different from the TV series.

“The important thing is how the world has changed. The Office came out of me watching a lot of those quaint docu-soaps in the ‘90s, but now it’s different," he said.

“Now, people live their life like an open wound…they’re rewarded for bad behavior and Brent can’t compete with that.

“So he’s just saying the first thing that comes into your head, but doing it with a bit of swagger.”

Be recently got our hands on the first full look at David’s new single from the film, ‘Life on The Road’, and it’s every bit as bizarre as expected.

"Half a tank should get me to Milbank," he sings in the clip. "I fill her up and head down to Sidcup. It's just demeaning. It's only fleeting. It's just a pitch and then I'm off to Ipswich."

Yep, it's pretty much the best song EVER.

"Life on the road," he continues. "Don't need a heavy load. Foot down to the floor. 70 miles an hour. But no more."

The clip follows on from the release of the first single, ‘Lady Gypsy’, a folk song about David falling in love with a fellow traveller. That's just as weird.
