Mel Greig gets real about endometriosis and ‘baby daddies’

In a new interview with The Daily Edition, Mel Greig has revealed she recently asked a male friend to donate his “swimmers” to her. Yes, really.

Okay, so some context first. Four months ago, the radio host, who suffers from endometriosis, went from planning IVF with her husband Steve Pollock to planning her divorce.

But instead of finding an anonymous sperm donor, the 33-year-old came up with a Plan B...

“I’ve got endometriosis so I need to do IVF,” she says in the interview above with The Daily Edition. “So I had a night of panic where I’ve thought, ‘If I don’t find someone in the next couple of years, I might not get to be a mum’.

“[So I] scrolled through my phone, ‘Do I have any baby daddies in here? What about him, let’s see if I can borrow some of his swimmers.’

“Texted him, asked him. He handled it pretty well – we’ve been friends for about 10 years."

“He didn’t know if I was mucking around," she adds. "So I texted him the next day and it is something that he’s actually thinking about.

“I think I’d rather know my sperm donor - have the chance to have a joint child with someone - rather than try and do it by myself.”

The show’s hosts then asked if Mel has a time limit on when she plans on trying for kids…and it turns out the time is now. Well, almost.

“With the endo, I’ve already got that time frame,” Mel explains. “Ideally I’d want another five years, but I don’t [have that time], so a couple of years.”
