Married at First Sight groom regrets saying his bride wasn't 'his type'

Not all surprise weddings start out smoothly.

Well, that was the case, threefold, during last night’s episode of Married at First Sight, when banking officer Jess, 31, first met 27-year-old Dave.

“If I'm being 100 percent honest, I don’t want to come across as some p***k. But I had expected something a little bit different. Is she the girl for me? I don’t know,” Dave says in the clip above.

Earlier in the episode, the couple both shared their insecurities around that first meeting.

“I'm fearing today that there's obviously every chance that one of us might not be instantly attracted to one another,” Dave said. “If I was immediately attracted to her it would be ideal.”

The account manager, who admitted he has struggled to get second dates in the past, added that after losing quite a lot of weight over the years, he has started to put himself back out there.

“I didn’t sleep with a girl until I was twenty years old,” he said. “Since losing the weight [my] confidence has risen and I'm a completely different person to who I used to be…I've been a bit of a dating addict... I went on a few dates.”

Jess had her own fears surrounding rejection.

“If he doesn’t like who I am it definitely will hurt,” she said. “If this experiment works out and I have met my perfect match I couldn’t even tell you how happy I would be.”

But Dave seems to regret his initial reaction, telling TheFIX that there’s a possibility he’s being portrayed as the show’s villain.

"I think when I first turned around all of my reactions were reasonably positive,” he told the site. “I can't recall being very disappointed."

He added: "Maybe they're just going to portray me as a villain. There's every chance it's going to happen. I knew when I signed up for the show."

Meanwhile, the series' first ever same-sex couple Craig and Andy also began preparations to marry in New Zealand.

That wedding will take place during episode three of Married at First Sight, airing tonight on the Nine Network.
