The Bachelor's Alex Nation has hit back at claims she dumped her ex- boyfriend – who is in a wheelchair – to go on the show!

“The claims made by an “insider” in New Idea on Monday, September 12 regarding Alex Nation and her past relationship with Tom Barbour are defamatory, completely false and misleading. Alex and Tom’s relationship ended amicably in September, 2015, with both parties agreeing it is best for them to part ways," the single mum's reps tells Be.

"Claims suggesting anything else are incredibly hurtful to both Alex and Tom, who remain on good terms. Tom is now overseas on a scholarship to study, and not overseas to escape Alex as suggested by New Idea.”

Rumours have been swirling about Alex dumping her ex Tom to go on the show last year and about her having a guaranteed spot in the top five.

Alex’s ex, Tom Barbour questioned the timing of her breaking up with him after learning that casting for The Bachelor opened in September last year.

New Idea reported that Tom was still in love with Alex when they broke up and was never sure about why she ended things.

“They were happy and, as far as he could see, nothing had changed, so he was really blindsided when Alex said she wanted it all to end,” a friend told the publication.

Alex and Tom had known each other for 10 years and were together for 15 months before the mum-of-one called it off.

The Bachelor contestant has spoken openly about her great relationship with Tom, saying he was probably the first person she loved.

“He’d been in a really severe accident on a construction site, where he had fallen nine metres and severed his spinal cord, but we fell madly in love, and I renovated my house so he could move in with me,” she told OK! Magazine.

Another rumour circulating about Alex is that she revealed to friends that she insisted the producers guarantee her a spot in the final five to “make it worth her while.”

“So even if she didn’t win, it would help her profile and acting aspirations,” a friend told New Idea.

During home visits on The Bachelor last week, Alex didn’t introduce Richie to her five-year-old son.

Alex is now in the top three women vying for Richie’s heart after causing quite a stir in an episode where she and Richie enjoyed a rather erotic chocolate bath together.

It’s The Bachelor finale this week, so we will know – very soon – whether Alex wins Richie’s heart.
