EXCLUSIVE: Morgan Griffin on her big break in Delta's video

The early noughties were the time of bumster jeans, Eminem, fake tan disasters and velour trackies.

And any serious pop connoisseur of the era would also have owned Delta Goodrem’s 2003 album debut, Innocent Eyes.

But it seems like time has seriously gotten away from us, as the girl who played the young Delta in the music video for the album’s title track is now all grown up and ready to take on Tinseltown.

That’s right. Sydneysider Morgan Griffin, who played Delta in the clip when she was 11, is now 24 years old and starring in the new Aussie flick Spin-Out.

Be spoke to the star about her new role alongside Twilight star Xavier Samuel and her first big break in Delta’s music video.

“I was really young when I did that,” she says during our interview. “I think I did like a short film, then after that it was the first thing I did, when I was about 10 or 11."

Fast-forward 13 years later and Morgan is now driving utes and playing a Jillaroo in the upcoming Australian film, Spin-Out, alongside Xavier, 32.

The pair, who have some pretty intimate scenes in the movie, recalled to Be how they didn’t have the chance to screen-test together before making out in the flick. Pretty risky business!

So how did they get along?

“I flew in from London and I think they were hoping we’d get along – too bad we didn’t,” Morgan jokes. “Thankfully it worked well. Well, kind of.”

Xavier then quips back: “What are you talking about?”

But the sarcastic duo did actually get along, and even popped down to the local pub together during filming of the flick, while on location at Shepparton, Victoria.

“We went down to the local pub a couple of times,” Morgan says. “More than a couple of times actually. We just embraced being in Shepparton for the time we were there.“

Speaking of embracing, Morgan and Xavier had to kiss in the film...So, was that awkward or heavily choreographed?

“The whole scene we’d rehearsed where we would end up, kind of like a dance,” Morgan tells. “But I think on the day you want an element of being open about it changing.”

Xavier interjects: “And also just working out what kind of kiss it is, what does it mean?

“It’s less like, ‘Oh, we’ve gotta kiss’, and more like, ‘Well, what’s it all about?’ Is it spontaneous? Or what’s the story in it?”

Wow. We had no idea so much thought goes into one onscreen kiss!

Be also caught up with Morgan and Xavier's co-stars Lincoln Lewis and Travis Jeffery to quiz them about how similar they are to their onscreen personas.

Lincoln's role as a "slimy" city slicker is just a case of life imitating art for the former Home and Away actor... or so he jokes in the clip below.

“To be honest with you… Trav is very much like [his character] Sparrow,” Lincoln says about Travis. “Like Sparrow, this bloke’s got a heart of gold. I’d happily give him the shirt off my back any day.”

Travis quips back, “He’s exactly like Nick,” before Lincoln interrupts with, "Just slimy, does anything to get what he wants.”

Travis interjects: “Nah, you’re the complete opposite. Apart from [the fact that] Nick’s really likeable, and you’re a likeable guy.”

“Thanks bro,” Lincoln says before high-fiving his co-star.

The actor, who plays Sydney lad Nick in the flick, also gushed with Travis over the country folk who left their jobs to work as extras on the flick, shot in Shepparton, Victoria.

“They were doing 10-hour days for free,” Travis says of the townsfolk who pitched in to make the movie happen.

But while Lincoln got to dress in his Sunday best and make out with girls for his role as Nick, Travis gets doused in human poo and mud, as well as getting dragged through the red dust for his part as Sparrow.

“I had the fun gig,” Travis laughs. “The mud fight was the kind of fun where it’s fun for about 15 minutes and then it’s horrible.

“Then the icy Shepparton winds blow in and then the next minute you have pneumonia. But it was amazing, how often do you get to do that.”
