Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had 'ironclad prenup'

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had a pre-nuptial agreement.

The Maleficent actress filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences last week, and it seems there won't be any issues dividing their combined US$400 million fortune. That's close to $523 million Aussie dollars!

According to TMZ, things were spelled out clearly in documents the pair signed before tying the knot two years ago.

Between them, the couple own a total of 12 properties, all of which were purchased before they wed.

Seven of the houses are Brad's, and two are Angelina's while three others - a New York apartment, a mansion in New Orleans and a vineyard in France - were joint purchases made before they wed, and the "ironclad pre-nup" stipulates how they will be divided, TMZ reports.

However, not everything is likely to be so simple with the divorce as Brad has vowed to battle it out with 41-year-old Angelina for custody of their children, Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, eight.

Angelina has applied for sole physical custody of the kids, allowing Brad visitation rights, but the Big Short star wants the care to be shared equally.

It was previously claimed that the 52-year-old actor has been left "completely devastated" by his divorce.

An insider shared: "He is beside himself and has been crying. He was completely caught off guard and blindsided and had no idea she would do this.

"Angelina filed the court papers a minute before the courts closed on Monday night. He didn't have a lawyer or anything.

"She had threatened divorce in the past but he did not think she would file this time. He is completely devastated and beside himself. He is a shattered man.

"He's extremely upset. But he is totally focused on just being helpful and making sure his kids are doing as well as possible."

Brad is also reportedly disappointed their split had to "play out publicly".

A pal added: "He is emotionally torn. Right now, he is devastated. He still loved Angelina and would have preferred they fight to make the marriage work.

"He was willing to do whatever it took to save the marriage and didn't know Angelina had already given up on it. He has wanted to protect the children. He didn't want it to play out publicly."

Brangelina acquired some stunning (and expensive) properties during their 12 years together spanning across the US and France.

Here are some of the luxury mansions...

Previously owned by US businessman Tom Bove, the breathtaking provincial home is estimated to be worth at least $80 million. It was bought in 2008 and in 2014, Brad and Angelina wedded there in secret. Located in Le Val in Provence, this wasn’t just the celebrities’ holiday home, it was a vineyard too where they produced Miraval Rosé wine.

Brangelina lived like kings in their luxury 560 square metre apartment in the Waldorf Astoria Towers in 2007. With unobstructed views overlooking The Big Apple, the home had six bathrooms, five bedrooms, a library and massive kitchen. Located on East 50th Street, around the corner from the United Nations, Brad and Angelina’s apartment has been estimated to cost around $135,000 a month to rent.

Brange bought this historical 1830s New Orleans home in 2006. Now on the market for $8.6 million, the five bedroom and five bathroom, two-story Governor Nicholls Street home is decked out with Venetian plastered walls, marble mantles, fireplaces, a pool and an elevator.

Previously the home of Brad and his first wife, Jennifer Aniston, the lavish and sentimental Malibu home is where the two got married in 2000.

Santa Barbara, California

The 52-year-old actor bought this 11-acre beach house in 2000 for $6.6 million. Together with their six children Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, Vivienne and Knox, both eight, Brange would go on relaxing holidays here during the summer months and ride their ATVS on the sand for some fun.

The Babel actor bought this trendy Los Feliz mansion in 1994 for approximately $2.3 million, almost 10 years before the pair met in 2003. Originally one house with five bedrooms and a pool, the Los Feliz property has grown exponentially over the years and now has several other smaller compounds surrounding the main home.
