Um, did Richie just confuse Alex with Nikki?

It seems like Richie confused his two favourite blondes in a recent Instagram post.

The rope technician shared a photo of him and Alex hanging out with his family... but awkwardly enough, his caption referenced a private joke between Richie's mum and runner-up, Nikki.

He wrote: "When Miss Grill is actually Miss Chill," next to the photo, which featured winning bachelorette Alex, not Nikki.

In the finale of the series, Richie's mum sat down with Nikki and gave her the menacing one-liner.

"Miss chill turning into miss grill," she teased, so we're pretty sure Alex wouldn't have understood the punchline in Richie's clever little caption.

Since choosing single mum Alex Nation as his winner, Richie received a lot of backlash from fans for his decision.

Both him and Alex have been targets on social media since they went public with their romance.

“Everything about this makes me feel sick,” one hater wrote, while another posted, “Just vomited a little.”

“It's funny because it won’t last,” another chimed in said, with one adding, “Have a life of regret.”

Richie addressed online trolls on The Project, revealing he wasn't sure why he had received so much negativity.

"I have gone down this pathway twice now in to the hope of falling in love and meeting a remarkable woman," he said. "Now I've done that and I've met Alex and followed my heart and people are a little bit upset."

Alex also addressed the harmful comments the couple have received on the show.

"At the end of the day this was Richie's journey and he had to follow his heart," she said.
