Liev posts super-sweet birthday tribute to Naomi

They announced their separation after 11 years together on Tuesday.

But unlike so many splitting couples who claim to be mates but secretly hate each others guts, it seems that Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber's insistence that "It is with great love, respect, and friendship in our hearts that we look forward to raising our children together," is legit.

Proving how much he cares, Liev posted an adorable tribute in honour of Naomi's 48th birthday yesterday.

The actress posted a shot of herself as a child in a vintage stroller, captioning it, "Another birthday!! #eek But I think I’m younger than this #vintagestroller?? Not quite sure what’s happening here… #eek #70’s #photoop #oldschool #raisedbyartists.”

To which her ex-partner, with whom she has two sons, replied “Happy Birthday Sweetheart."

Even more touching though is an interview that Liev gave to news.com.au just last Friday, in which he gushed about the first time he met Naomi at the Met Ball.

“I was a little obsessed with her,” he told the website. “When we first met, it was very awkward... she said to me, ‘Do you want to go dancing?’ And thank God she was forward.

“I said, ‘Yeah, I will go dancing!’ And if I wasn’t already intimidated enough just by being at the Met Ball, I went down to the club where she was sitting with Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro.

“Two of my favourite actors who I thought were both really handsome and both really, really talented... Finally, I was just like, ‘This is ridiculous, I am way in over my head.'

“And she chased me out of the place and said, ‘Don’t you want my number?’... I never ended up dancing with her that night but we went a couple of days later in the morning for some cupcakes at Magnolia (the bakery made famous by Sex and the City). And that was it.”
