EXCLUSIVE: The Bachelorette's Tommy admits he's 'terrible with women'

If you weren't having an ugly cry during last night's eviction on The Bachelorette then you weren't paying attention.

There wasn't a dry eye in the Be hive as 32-year-old Tommy was let go by Georgia Love shortly after his first opportunity to open up to her in a one-on-one. Yep, it hit us all right in the feels.

Clearly we're as baffled as Tommy about this one, so we chatted to the Queenslander to try and figure out what went wrong.

“I’m sure she has her reasons,” Tommy says of Georgia’s decision to farewell him from the show. “And I’m sure they’re good reasons.”

During the episode, the returned service man opened up to Georgia about feeling ready to meet the right person, only to be sent packing the following day. So what happened?

“I’m terrible with women,” Tommy tells Be. “I don’t have the confidence to just go up and start a conversation with a girl, I‘m terrible at reading signs and I guess that’s why I’ve been single for so long.

“It’s not because I’m out there spending lots of time with different women - I’m definitely not a player – I’m just bad at reading signs.”

The Employment Coach adds that he has had more luck in the past once a lady has got to know him, before implying that it may have been more of a “timing” thing with Georgia.

“I just couldn’t get comfortable around Georgia," he tells. "I think I was too nervous.

“For me to open up like that is something that I haven’t done in a very long time and that’s what I was on there to do – to open up like that – and I did that."

But although his confidence took a mighty blow by being booted, Tommy says he doesn't feel particularly hurt about the whole thing, and surprisingly, he refers to his abrupt send-off as a "nice way to go".

“I could have just walked off like everyone else," he explains. “Obviously you want to be there until the end, but if I had to go, it was a nice way to go.

"At least everyone got to see the kind of person that I am. I’m pleased with that.”

Tommy adds that his rose ceremony farewell wasn't as abrupt as it appeared to viewers.

“We talked for a little bit longer than that,” Tommy reveals. “I gave her like three or four cuddles and I just kept telling her ‘Stop crying, it’s okay. You have like 10 amazing guys in there, you need to get back in there and hang out with those guys because they’re waiting for you.’”

Yep, we're not crying...you are!

Sure, Tommy may not have found romance on the show, but he did find bromance...with Rhys!

“Me and Rhys are quite tight,” Tommy says. “We hang out most weekends. I wish that everyone had got to see the side of Rhys that I’ve seen.

“After the show, my confidence did take a bit of a battering. It wasn’t as if I was in love or anything like that, but it was a big deal for me to do that and then to leave so abruptly was a bit confidence shattering.

“But Rhys being a confident man sort of took me under his wing a little bit…he makes me feel confident. It’s not just about him, he makes his mates feel confident as well. So, yeah, he helped me out.

“Don’t get me wrong, Rhys is like that,” he adds, when we quiz him over the model's upfront personality. “But he doesn’t set out to hurt anyone, deliberately hurt people's feelings or bully anyone, that’s just how he is and some people like it, some people don’t.”

So who does Tommy think should win Georgia Love’s affections?

“The most deserving person who I’d like to see happy is Ryan,” he says. “I know we haven’t seen much of him, but he’s the biggest sweetheart and the most genuine guy. He honestly would not hurt a fly. That guy is such a champ.”

When we suggest that maybe Ryan should be the next Bachelor, Tommy is all for it.

“I’d watch that!” he agrees.

So who does he think will win?

“Lee is a nice guy,” he says. “But personality-wise, I’m going for Matty J...he's the best looking guy there, in person for sure."

The Bachelorette continues next Wednesday and Thursday on Network Ten.
