As she tries to ask the police why she is being arrested, they tell her itâs because she is famous.
"Alright I'm being arrested," she says. "Because I was trespassing like everyone. As soon as you guys asked me to leave, I l left. She was down there, everybody was down there. I'm being arrested. I was down there with everybody else. I don't know what's going on? As soon as they came I left⊠it's because I'm well known. It's because I have 40,000 people watching."
As sheâs led away in handcuffs, the Fault in Our Stars actress added: "So everybody knowsâŠwe were going to our vehicle which they had all surrounded and waiting for me with giant guns and a giant truck behind them just so they could arrest me. I hope you're watching mainstream media."
According to E! News, Shailene and 26 other people supporting the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe were arrested at the construction site of the $4.8 billion project for criminal trespassing and taken to Morton County Sheriffâs Office.
The tribe say the pipeline would leave their sacred land vulnerable to contamination from oil spills and would damage their historic and culturally significant site.
While supporters of the pipeline say it would provide a safer and more cost-effective way to transport oil to the U.S. Gulf than by road or rail.
