This is why Kate Fischer changed her name

The internet blew up when Woman's Day recently uncovered the whereabouts of James Packer's ex-fiancé Kate Fischer.

The 42-year-old left the celebrity world over two decades ago to "find herself", and ended up converting to Judaism. She even adopted the name T’ziporah Malka.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the inspiration behind her name appeared to be from her Jewish grandma, Zipporah.

The literal interpretation of the word means 'little bird' or 'sparrow', but other sources claim the name stands for beauty.

Malka means 'Queen' in Hebrew language.

The former model, who was engaged to James Packer for two years in the 90s, has been in the spotlight since winning the 1988 Dolly Magazine Covergirl competition at aged 14.

In recent years, she changed her name to T’ziporah Malka after converting to Judaism, and became a US citizen after relocating to LA.

She has since moved to Melbourne to take up work as a part-time therapist in an aged-care facility.

The former actress, who starred alongside Elle MacPherson in racy '90s flick Sirens, says she may look unrecognisable today, but insists that her new look is actually old news.

"Hello! I've done a bit of a lengthy write up somewhere on this page (sorry - not techie at all!)," she wrote on her Facebook overnight.

"When it comes to me, mine is the voice that you can trust. 'Kate got fat! Kate got fat! Kate got fat!' is older news than Moses. And anyway that's not my legal name anymore.

"Thanks guys for checking in with me. I'm no longer desirous of being a public figure but I've noticed a bit of interest in this page in the last 24 hours so I thought I'd say G'day!"
