Jim Carrey 'hires PI to dig up dirt' on ex’s grieving family

Jim Carrey has allegedly hired private investigators to 'dig up dirt' on the family of his late ex-girlfriend, Cathriona White, after they filed wrongful death suits against him.

“Within the last 48 hours, two private investigators working for Carrey have been doing everything they can to come up with information for Carrey to use,” Cathriona's family attorney, Michael Avenatti, said in a statement.

He also added that the two investigators asked “questions designed to get [White’s friends] to speak badly about the grieving family.”

The news comes after Cathriona's mother, Brigid Sweetman, said she would drop their lawsuit against the actor if he released test results proving he never had an STD.

Cathriona's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Jim, who they describe as "abhorrent", and claimed he gave their daughter three STDs during the course of their relationship.

“Jim Carrey and his lawyer have told the world that Carrey has never had STDs and he has never tested positive for STDs,” Brigid said in a statement.

“They have called me and Mark ‘shams’ for claiming otherwise.”

“I am demanding they immediately release the full 2013 lab results so people can judge for themselves who is telling the truth and who is lying.”

The Ace Ventura star denied giving Cathriona STDs, including oral and genital herpes, and chlamydia.

“How dare Carrey and his Hollywood lawyers try and malign the family and intimidate them,” the attorney said.

“Sending private investigators out to dig up dirt on a grieving mother is disgusting. These people have no bounds."

Cathriona was found dead in her Los Angeles home on Sept. 28, 2015. She was 30 years old.

The coroner’s office said the death was caused by "multiple drugs effect," and a toxicology report found four prescription drugs in her system: a mix of painkillers, beta blockers and a sleep aid.

Jim and Cathriona dated on and off for three years, starting in 2012. The comedian served as a pallbearer at her funeral last October in Ireland.
