Cate's all smiles but still no ring in NYC amid love scandal

She might be caught at the centre of a love scandal, but to look at Cate Blanchett laughing and smiling with a mate in New York, you wouldn't know it.

The actress is still yet to respond to a report in New Idea earlier this week, which included video footage of her husband Andrew Upton with his arm around Love Child actress Harriet Dyer.

But the 47-year-old was all smiles when she stepped out in the Big Apple yesterday, chatting with a friend on the sidewalk and wearing a pair of bright pink aviator glasses which matched her cheerful disposition.

The actress was still without her wedding rings though, instead opting for a piece of turquoise bling on that finger.

There's also been no sign of Andrew, 50, who onlookers have accused of 'holding hands' with 27-year-old actress Harriet.

"They seemed very close. They were there with a group, playing pool and drinking, but they were never far from each other," a source claimed to New Idea.

"At one point they were holding hands and he had his arm around her. I don't know if Cate would've been happy to see them like this, that's for sure."

They then left the venue, with Harriet holding onto Andrew's arm before being confronted about their night out.

"We've been friends for years," Andrew reasoned, before insisting that Cate wouldn't be upset about him holding hands with Harriet "at all".

The pair then left in separate taxis.

Harriet, who plays Patricia Saunders in Love Child, has previously worked with Andrew at the Sydney Theatre Company, where he and Cate simultaneously served as artistic directors from 2008 to 2015.

In fact, at the AACTA Awards last year, Harriet gushed, "I've always looked up to Cate Blanchett."

According to New Idea, Cate left Sydney just days after her husband's night out, taking daughter Edit, one, and son Roman, 12, with her.

She hasn't been photographed with Andrew since August and was spotted at New York's JFK airport on October 10.

Meanwhile, Harriet will make a red carpet appearance on Tuesday, October 25, to promote her role in season two of Stan's No Activity at Sydney’s Golden Age Cinema.
