Jesinta Campbell's torment at the hands of bullies

Who’d have thought someone as stunning as Jesinta Campbell was once bullied at school for her looks.

The 25-year-old model appeared on the Kyle and Jackie O show this morning to talk about her first book Live A beautiful Life.

While the book is mainly a diet and health guide, Jesinta also speaks about her schooling years and the times she grappled with bullies in hopes of inspiring others who’ve been bullied that there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

The Gold Coast beauty told the KIIS FM radio hosts she didn’t always look this way.

“I had braces, I had glasses, I had that longer skirt...” Jesinta recalled.

Jackie O was shocked to hear the David Jones ambassador had been bullied and added: “The ugly ducklings always turn out to be the supermodels.”

The host asked the 2010 Miss Universe Australia winner if she had ever come in contact with the girls who ostracised her after school.

“Yes I have, i’ve had a few girls write to me and apologise for the way that they treated me,” the brunette bombshell said.

“I don't think bullying is uncommon. It’s a really common thing not only in schools but also work places,” she continued.

“It’s a really serious issue and I never felt I was really stuck and was never in a place I felt I couldn't get out of and some people are and my personal stories about some things that happened at school can help someone else on their journey,” she said.

In 2011, Jesinta spoke to Woman’s Day about how her mum, Valerie, helped her through those tough times.

Jesinta recalled a heartbreaking story about the time was bullied on her first day of high school: “A girl from my primary school moved to the same high school as me, and she had started a rumour before I even got there and told everyone not to be my friend,” she told the magazine.

“So of course when everyone was pairing up for the first day of high school, no-one wanted to pair up with me or be my buddy.”

As a result of being bullied, the model moved schools and found her mum’s wisdom and advice a lifesaver whenever she’d find herself in similar situations.

“Mum used to tell me that people’s opinions of you don’t define you,” she said.

“It is how you choose to react to them and how you behave as a person that defines you and what people will remember you for."

Jesinta recently signed with IMG models and has been engaged to 29-year-old Sydney Swans star Lance 'Buddy' Franklin for two years.

Kyle asked if marriage was on the cards for the two love birds anytime soon, she replied: “We’re both really young and have had a really big and busy year and me changing agencies and buddy making the grand final... For us health and happiness was our focus this year and marriage was put on the back that.”

And as for kids? Kyle asked.

Well… “It happens when it happens,” Jesinta said.
