5 dating rules First Dates taught us NEVER to break

When it comes to dating, there are so many rules to keep track of.

What to wear, what NOT to wear, how much to drink, who to avoid talking about... the list goes on.

But after tuning in to last night's toe-curling episode of First Dates, it's clear there are a few rules that should definitely be stuck to - without exception.

1. Don't ask about his package size

This one really should be under the 'Goes Without Saying' category, but clearly Lisa didn't get the memo.

After a bit of small talk with prospective partner Ryan, Lisa cut to the chase and went in for the kill...

"Are you sure that there’s like, no faults with you? Like should I worry that you’ve got a small package?," she questioned.

"No," Ryan responds. "You should definitely not worry about that." A, um, cocky comeback but as a rule ladies and gents, keep the convo above the belt.

Ryan had no shame when it came to talking about his nether regions.

2. Don't use terrible pick-up lines

It is *scientifically proven (by every woman, EVER) that pick-up lines don't work.

So when Shadi dropped the line: "Is your surname ‘internet’? Because I’m feeling such a strong connection," viewers died on the inside. His date's face says it all really...

Natalie was not impressed...

3. Reveal your last marriage lasted for 44 days

Shadi strikes again! This time it's to let his date, Natalie, know that he is not a commitmentphobe - in fact, he's been married before.

For 44 days.

He even joked it was a shorter time period than Kim Kardashian's marriage to Kris Humphries. Needless to say, his date was left less-than-impressed. So yeah, maybe don't bring up failed marriages on a first date.

4. Hand out business cards made by your mum

Nothing screams out 'desperate' more than letting your own mother pimp you out.

Roxy, who claims she's the 'Bridget Jones' of Australia, reveals her mum hands out business cards with her face on it, reading 'Single And Ready To Mingle'.

"It still hasn't worked because none of them have ever contacted me," she said. Zero percent success rate for pick-up cards? The stats don't lie....

5. Talk about geography when you have no clue about the subject

When Aarun tells Roxy he's from Sri Lanka, she responds by telling him she doesn't like Indian food. If geography isn't your strongest subject, we advise you keep it off limits.
