Georgia Love fights back tears recalling mother's death

Georgia Love has fought back tears recalling how she found out about her mother’s death during “the worst phone call of her life.”

The Bachelorette star, who had gone public with her chosen man Lee Elliot just days before her mum Belinda died from pancreatic cancer, admits the combined experiences were “bittersweet”.

"We could finally be in the same room together and tell each other how we feel and relax… And literally 24 hours later I got the worst phone call of my life,” she revealed during an emotional interview on The Project.

"It's been incredibly difficult, but would have just been made so much more difficult if Lee had not been there," Georgia added.

"There are silver linings and my mum absolutely supported me 100 per cent in doing this and in everything I did."

Although the finale of the reality show was filmed in August, the couple had to keep their relationship a secret until last month.

When asked whether or not she regretted her decision to go on The Bachelorette for three months instead of spending time with her mum, Georgia said she had didn't have any regrets about what she's done.

"You know, you can look back at any point of your life and go, 'Well, I was away for two months travelling there or a year working there' but if I had not have gone on The Bachelorette I would not have (met) Lee."

"But I would have still been in Tassie, I would have been further away from my mum. So, you know, I don't regret anything that happened."

Earlier this week Georgia made her first public appearance since her mother's death at the Cosmopolitan Women of the Year Awards 2016 in Sydney.

“It’s especially poignant for me to be here today. Less than two weeks ago I lost the most important woman in my life,” she told the audience after taking the stage to say a few words about Belinda.
