Mariah Carey wants $50 million settlement from James

Mariah Carey and James Packer are reportedly in negotiations for a financial settlement for the singer, who is said to want US$50 million (AU$68 million) for uprooting her life to move to LA for him, TMZ reports.

The site is also reporting that James insists there is "no legal basis" for him to pay Mariah anything as they weren't married.

Mariah, 46, was said to have been left "blindsided" when James called off their engagement.

A source recently told E! News that the split has been "devastating" for Mariah.

"She made life changes for this man to prepare for their future as husband and wife, even relocating to Los Angeles, at James' request, so he could be closer to his children."

And the singer - who has five-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe with her ex-husband Nick Cannon - is determined to get a financial settlement.

However, a source close to the couple recently told New York Post: "Of course Mariah wants money, but she's not getting $50 million. There's no negotiations about money because they haven't spoken since the split.

"He let her keep the engagement ring, and she isn't getting a cent more."

This comes as Mariah is reportedly planning to sing about her heartbreak in a new breakup album.

A source told Us Weekly: "Mariah has been putting all her pain into a new album. She wants it to have the big heartbreak ballads she's famous for."
