The Spears family had asked the public to “pray for our baby” after Jamie Lynn’s eight-year-old daughter was hospitalised.
The shocking accident saw the ATV Maddie Briann Aldridge was driving flip over, submerging her underwater for several minutes.
Maddie has been in a critical but stable condition in hospital since the incident, surrounded by worried family. But in a statement from her hospital obtained by People, doctors report that she is now “awake and talking”.
“[Maddie] is aware of her surroundings and recognises those family members who have kept a round-the-clock vigil since the accident,” the statement details.
After grave fears for Maddie, it appears she is expected to make a full recovery.
“Doctors were able to remove the ventilator today and she is awake and talking,” the statement continues.
“Maddie continues to receive oxygen and is being monitored closely but it appears that she has not suffered any neurological consequences from the accident.”
Jamie Lynn, 25, and her husband Jamie Watson have come under fire for allowing Maddie to drive the ATV.
TMZ reports that the Polaris RZR 170’s instruction manual states that no child under 10 should operate the vehicle. The publication claims that Maddie received the vehicle as a gift for her 7th birthday.
Maddie’s stepdad has shared posts on his Instagram of the eight-year old joining him in a duck hunt and driving the ATV.
After news broke that his stepdaughter had woken up, he took to the social media platform to pass on his thanks to well-wishers. “Thank you everyone for the prayers. Maddie is doing better and better. Thank y’all so much."
