Lisa's domestic violence revelations

Former swimming champion Lisa Curry has revealed that domestic abuse played a part in her upbringing, admitting she saw the pool as her "safe place".

The 54-year-old made the candid admission on Monday night's episode of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! telling her fellow camp mates she was "probably around the age of thirteen or fourteen [when] we had a lot of domestic violence in our house."

The gold medal winning swimmer went on to add she would retreat to the sport to escape her turbulent home life.

"I just wanted to be at the pool the whole time, just to be away from what was happening at the house. I asked my mum if she would drop me off early and pick me up late," she said.

The abusive family member is believed to now be deceased, according to The Daily Telegraph.

However Lisa went on to say despite the hardships of her family life, she has no regrets about channelling her energy into something positive.
