Ange's Cambodian controversy

She's recently been in Cambodia to promote her new film First They Killed My Father, but that's not all Angelina Jolie is doing while abroad.

The 41-year-old actress, who announced her split from Brad Pitt last September, has is apparently planning to buy land in the country.

The movie star is planning to purchase a 2.5 hectare plot of land, situated right next to another "heavily-guarded jungly hideaway" she bought in 2002 from a Khmer Rouge commander accused of mass murder, reports Daily Mail.

According to the publication, the actress asked her representatives to offer US$40,000 for the land.

"I am happy we are selling to this famous lady. We see Angelina whenever she visits and she is always very friendly," said former Cambodian army officer Rieng Cheat, who gave Daily Mail a tour of the property.

Back in 2002, Angelina purchased another area of land through the Maddox Jolie Pitt (MJP) Foundation, and has since built a holiday home on it.

She purchased it from a commander Yim Tith, who was "accused of genocide and crimes against humanity during the Khmer Rouge reign of terror 40 years ago", and then charged of committing genocide in 2015.

Yim Tith says that he was told to sell his land to the actress, or it would be confiscated.

Last month Angelina visited Cambodia to promote her new film, and brought her six adoptive children along as well.

And she even introduced them to a local delicacy, spiders.

"I think it’s always been a part of the diet, the bugs, but then I think there is a truth to the survival during the war of course... when people were being starved they were able to survive on things like this and they did.," she told BBC, reflecting on the country's history with this sort of diet.

Earlier in the interview, she finally addressed her divorce from Brad, getting emotional she opened up about the last few months.

"I don’t want to say very much about that, except to say it was a very difficult time and we are a family, and we will always be a family," she told the BBC.
