Ben Affleck has revealed that he spent two weeks in a rehab facility getting help for alcohol addiction.
The Fargo actor took to his Facebook page on Tuesday and described the secret stint as, “The first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery.”
In the moving post he paid tribute to wife Jennifer Garner, who is rumoured to have called off their divorce.
“I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I've dealt with in the past and will continue to confront. I'm lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I've done the work I set out to do," he wrote.
This is not the first time Ben has received treatment for addiction issues. He also checked into rehab in 2001 and told Vanity Fair it was a "preemptive strike” given the fact his father struggled with the disease, causing a split from his mum when Ben was just 12.
The 44-year-old star and Jen are parents to daughters Violet, 11, Serephina, eight, and son Samuel, five, and Ben admitted his kids were a driving force behind his decision to get help.
“I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be," he wrote. "I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step.”
