They shocked the world with their forbidden tryst and now Rupert Sanders has spoken about his affair with Kristen Stewart.
The director, who hooked up with the actress after the worked on Snow White and the Huntsman in 2012, has recalled the "exciting mistake" the pair made.
The affair ended Kristen's three-year relationship with Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson, while Rupert's wife Liberty Ross subsequently filed for divorce.
"You never know what’s coming in life," Rupert told Metro UK while promoting his new film Ghost In The Shell.
"Around every corner there’s something unexpected, and that’s life. You just have to brush yourself off and continue moving forward the best you can.
"Everyone makes mistakes. I am bound to make more mistakes and I wouldn’t expect my life to be exciting if I didn’t. If you took people off the table for a momentary lapse, there would be no one making art."
Kristen and Rob were caught kissing in LA in July 2012, with the pair issuing statements immediately after the photos were published online.
"I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together," Rupert said of his children and wife of 11 years in a public statement.
Meanwhile, Kristen issued a heartfelt apology to Rob, saying at the time she was "deeply sorry" for the hurt she caused.
"I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob," the actress said. "I love him. I love him. I'm so sorry."
The affair even upset now US President Donald Trump, with the businessman taking to Twitter (what else?) to offer unsolicited relationship advice to Rob, branding Kristen as a "scarlet woman."
Kristen recently alluded to her and Rupert's affair while hosting Saturday Night Live earlier this year, calling the President's interest in her personal life "unhealthy".
“The president’s probably watching and I don’t think he likes me that much. Here’s how I know… Four years ago, I was dating a guy named Rob and we broke up and then we got back together, and for some reason it made Donald Trump go insane,” she said during her hosting gig.
“The president is not a huge fan of me. That is so okay because Donald if you didn’t like me then you’re not going to like me now because I’m hosting SNL and I’m, like, sooo gay dude.”
Kristen and model Stella Maxwell have been in a relationship since September last year.
