Molly crashes Samuel’s Gold Logies speech

There was nothing but sheer surprise on Samuel Johnson’s face when he was announced as this year’s Gold Logie winner.

But more surprising still was when Molly Meldrum made his way onto the stage half way through his speech to add his own unique congratulations.

Pushing Samuel out of the way, Molly said, “Ah, can I just tell you something that you never do as an actor, or as a TV presenter?”

“You never say ‘um’, ‘er’, ‘um, ‘er’ - alright keep going!”

The moment was met with laughs from the audience, which only got louder when Molly swore, saying, “do yourself a f***ing favour!” before giving Samuel back the mic.

It wasn’t much longer before Molly was back in the spotlight however, and the veteran TV presenter went on to hand Samuel – who played him in the TV mini series Molly – a golden cowboy hat.

“I know it was very hard to play an old drama queen like myself,” he said, “So on behalf of the drama queen of Australia, I’d like to crown you also with my gold hat.”

It came after Molly gave his own lengthy speech during which he looked back on how the mini series came to be.
