Whitney doco explores 'bisexual affair'
Her ex-husband Bobby Brown first made the shock claims last year, and now a new documentary further explores Whitney Houston’s alleged bisexuality.
The controversial film Whitney: Can I Be Me? premiered this week at the Tribeca Film Festival, and much of the focus is on Whitney’s relationship with her longtime friend and assistant Robyn Crawford.
The pair met as kids growing up in New Jersey, even living together after graduating high school, and were close up until the singer’s death at age 48 in February 2012.
And several pals interviewed for the film claim that Whitney and Robyn were not always platonic – although the pair always denied it.
“Robyn provided a safe place for her. Robyn loved her…In that, Whitney found safety and solace,” the singer’s friend and stylist Ellin Lavar says in the doco, according to reports in People.
“I don’t think she was gay, I think she was bisexual,” Ellin adds.
The film also claims that Whitney’s husband Bobby Brown, who she married in 102 and divorced in 2007, was aware of her connection with Robyn and resented it.
“Bobby Brown and Robyn Crawford were like fire and ice. They hated each other,” People reports that Whitney’s former bodyguard David Roberts says in the doco.
“They’d battle for her affections. Bobby and Robyn had some physical altercations and there were times he wasn’t always the winner.”
Another of Whitney’s security guards, Kevin Ammons, adds that: “[They] had a bond and Bobby Brown could never remove Robyn. He wanted to be the man in the relationship.”
Although Bobby has previously speculated about the late singer’s sexuality, he declined to be interviewed for Can I Be Me, with Whitney’s mother, Cissy Houston and Robyn also refusing to take part.

Bobby, 47, told Us Weekly last year that Whitney had a “sexual relationship” with Robyn.
'I know….we were married for 14 years,” he said at the time. “There are some things we talked about that were personal to us.”
