Lorde apologises for Taylor Swift comment

Lorde has issued an apology after she compared being friends with Taylor Swift to having a pal with "very specific allergies" or "an autoimmune disease".

Taking to Twitter, the 20-year-old Kiwi singer said she "f****d up", acknowledging what she had said "was really insensitive" and that she's "sorry" for the analogy.

She also said there was no specific mention of Taylor, while the recent Guardian interview from which her quote comes from, has implied otherwise.

In the interview, it was claimed the singer opened up "on the difficulty of maintaining a friendship with someone as famous as Taylor Swift".

“It’s like having a friend with very specific allergies," Lorde said.

"There are certain places you can’t go together. Certain things you can’t do. There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It’s like having a friend with an autoimmune disease."

An autoimmune disease is a disease where the immune system attacks healthy cells, and examples include celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, lupus and multiple sclerosis.

Lorde's initial comments sparked plenty of reactions on social media, with one Twitter user asking what Selena Gomez, who is a friend of Taylor's and suffers from lupus, would think of the comments.
