Margot slammed for sponsored post

Margot Robbie has been slammed by fans after appearing to share a sponsored post on her Instagram page.

While enjoying the Glasonbury music festival over the weekend, the 26-year-old actress shared a photo with her pals, tagging gumboot brand Hunter in the snap and writing "#ad" in caption.

Margot soon deleted the hashtag instead opting for a more suitable caption of "#glasto", prompting questions and backlash about the missing hashtag from fans.

The star also uploaded another hashtag-free shot from her music-filled weekend, of a half-body shot with the gumboots in full view.

Fans were quick to comment on the post with many asking "Is this an advert?" underneath the snap.

Sponsored posts aren't anything new on the social media platform, with Australia and the UK having similar rules when it comes to celebs and social media influencers posting on behalf of a company.

But both Australian and UK guidelines state it must be clear what content is paid for, however there's no rules on what the post must say, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The outlet adds that the UK Advertising Standards Authority said it will not investigate the star for her post.

The Suicide Squad star is reportedly worth a cool $8 million.

Instagram recently adressed the issue, saying there needs to be more transparency around the posts, with celebs and influencers to make clear that they're either pocketing cash or benefiting in some way, and encouranging a "paid partnership with" subheading for all sponsored posts.
