Jay Z reveals his marriage to Beyoncé was 'cracking'

First it was Beyoncé’s turn to air her dirty laundry with her groundbreaking 2016 album Lemonade, and now her husband Jay Z has given us more details into their relationship problems with his new record 4:44.

Call us nosy, but we’re so here for it!

The song “4:44”, in which he alludes to his past infidelity, is particularly damning, with the lyrics: “If my children knew, I don’t even know what I would do. If they ain’t look at me the same, I would probably die with all the shame.

“You did what with who? What good is a ménage a trois when you have a soulmate, you risked that for Blue?”

And now in a new “footnotes” video for the track, Jay is opening up even more to a group of pals, including actor Jesse Williams and comedian Chris Rock, about modern marriage. Check out some of the footage above.

The 47-year-old is seen candidly discussing how he and his wife had to start being honest with each other.

“We’ve been in that space where we just got to the place that in order for this to work, it can’t be fake – not once,” he says in the footage. “I’m not saying it wasn’t uncomfortable because obviously it was, but because we’ve been doing it for so long it was less uncomfortable.”

In the video, which is only available on his streaming service Tidal, he also talks about how being in the public eye can put extra pressure on a marriage.

“This is my real life. I just ran into this place and we built this big, beautiful mansion of a relationship that wasn’t totally built on the 100 per cent truth and it starts cracking,” The Sun quotes Jay as saying in the clip.

“Things start happening that the public can see... we had to get to a point of ‘OK, tear this down and let’s start from the beginning.’ It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”

"It’s the crux of the album, just right in the middle of the album. I woke up, literally, at 4:44 in the morning, 4:44am, to write this song. So it became the title of the album and everything.
