First look at Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins

We've been given out first sneak peak at the sequal to the 1964 Disney classic Mary Poppins which stars Emily Blunt in the lead role.

Director Rob Marshall and actress Emily Blunt took to the stage at the D23 expo on Saturday to present the first-ever footage from Mary Poppins Returns in Anheim, Califonria.

Tens-of-thousands of people attended the expo to get a glimpse of the footage and it was reported people gave it a standing ovation.

The footage encapsulated the lives of Jane and Michael Banks, who live with their three children during the Great Depression in the United Kingdom.

Mary Poppins [Emily Blunt] then appears out of the clouds to assist the family after they suffered a tragic loss, and help the family rediscover joy and happiness.

Theb Girl On The Train actress admitted to fans that following in Julie Andrews’ footsteps was a daunting but exciting adventure.

“I found that I watched about 15 minutes of the original and then just stopped watching it because I needed to kind of try and pay homage to what Julie did but carve out new space for myself,” telling the fans.

She then went on to say, “No one is ever going to out-Julie Julie Andrews. She’s just unbelievable.”

Walt Disney has since released a motion poster where you see Emily emerge from behind an umbrella in costume.

Other well -know actors such as Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, Emily Mortimer and one of the films original stars Dick Van Dyke will all be making an appearance.

The film is set hit cinemas by December 2018!
