Judge blocks auction of Madonna’s Tupac letter and used undies

Madonna learned through media reports earlier this month that some personal items of hers were set to go to auction, but now a Manhattan judge has blocked the auction house from selling the memorabilia off.

The “highly personal items” including a letter from ex-boyfriend and late rapper Tupac Shakur, a pair of her worn undies and “used hairbrush with her hair”.

Madonna filed an emergency court order on Tuesday to block the auction of her personal items which was due to take place on Wednesday this week.

The court papers, obtained by ET Online, stated that the 58-year-old had only learned of the auction through various reports she had seen.

According to the documents Madonna was not even aware the Tupac letter was “no longer in her possession”.

“I was shocked to learn of the planned auctioning of the Shakur Letter, as I had no idea that the Shakur Letter was no longer in my possession. I have never sold, gifted, transferred or otherwise disposed of the Shakur Letter, or granted anyone else the authority to do so,” she states in the papers.

The auctioneer is said to be art consultant Darlene Lutz who Madonna claims is a “former friend” of hers.

The singer believes the items that were taken from her was from a previous home in Miami that Lutz “would have had unrestricted access to these items on numerous occasions”.

All items related to the sale of Madonna’s items have now been removed from the auction website including the Tupac letter, which was expected to go for $400,000 USD.

A spokesperson for the auction house released a statement to The New York Times in response to Madonna’s legal action stating: “Madonna and her legal army have taken what we believe to be a completely baseless and meritless action to temporarily halt the sale of Ms Lutz’s legal property.”
