Patti Newton ‘vows' to help raise son Matt’s baby
Patti and Bert Newton’s son Matt has a troubled past but it looks like he has turned over a new leaf as he prepares to welcome his first child.
Woman’s Day has reported that Patti is totally prepared to help raise the newborn child just as she has done with her daughter Lauren’s children.
Matt is expecting his first child with his 24-year-old fiancée Catherine Schneiderman.
Patti and Bert are said to be incredibly excited to become grandparents again.
A source told the magazine: “Patti thinks the timing is perfect for Matt to be a dad.”
“He has done a lot of thinking and reflection on his past mistakes, and he’s done a lot of work on himself,” the source added.
Matt has a troubled past and fled to the USA five years ago to start a new life for himself.
The former Underbelly actor has reportedly immersed him in directing in New York City.
In 2006, Matthew reportedly assaulted his then-girlfriend Brooke Satchwell. He was convicted for the assault but it was overturned a year later. A psychiatrist said he had been rehabilitated and was therefore unlikely to offend again.
In 2010, his then-fiancée Rachael Taylor ended their relationship after two domestic violence incidents that occurred in Rome. The alleged attacks caused the actress to take out an AVO against him.

The insider also told Woman’s Day: “Patti sees the baby as stabalising influence – Matt has been very stable for several years now – and thinks becoming a dad will help him put all that trouble and heartache behind him.”
Patti and Bert already have four grandchildren via daughter Lauren, Sam, 9, Eva, 8, Lola, 5, and 17-month-old Monty.
