Jess Gomes talks life with Xavier Samuel

Jessica Gomes has revealed how she's manages to keep her work/life balance in check despite her successful career and relationship with actor Xavier Samuel.

Back home in Australia and ready to hit the runway at Thursday night's David Jones spring/summer runway show, the 32-year-old spoke to Be about how she maintains the balance.

"I think for me I like to keep things quite separate so I can be focused and be professional at work and then when I leave work I feel like I have my personal life to myself because that’s private and that’s personal and that’s something very close to me," Jess said.

The genetically blessed couple, who were spotted together last October, have managed to keep their relationship relatively under wraps.

Jessica added that it comes down to a protectiveness over her loved ones that makes it easier for her to separate her work life from her relationship with the Twilight actor and that keeping things behind closed doors works for the couple.

"I’m very protective of my family and my loved ones so I like to keep it pretty separate," she added. "Everyone is different though, but for me I like to keep things quite private in my personal life which works for me and my partner."

However Jess admitted to Be that it's taken time for her to work out her "balance" and it's come with age and maturity that she's found her happy medium.

"I think it’s important to live in your truth and do what makes you happy really. I think it’s all about balance and knowing how to protect yourself and knowing how to live a healthy lifestyle. Definitely for me that has come with age, as you become more mature in this industry you realise what works for you so I stick to my own little mantras I have to stay sane with it all," she added.

"I think when you’re younger you’re still working it all out and testing it all out boundaries and testing what type of person you want to be and if you want to be that rebellious person or if you want to be “perfect” person, whatever it might be that you’re trying to do.

"When I was younger I felt untouchable travelling the world, having fun and working hard but now I have different priorities and I like to keep it pretty chill but it’s all really nice."

Last Christmas Jessica and Xavier were spotted enjoying the holiday break together in their homeland, with the model opening up earlier this year about starting a family and making sure she raises her own kids have a good sense of Australia.

"I definitely want my children to know and understand Australia," she told News Corp at the time.

"I think I'll always be the type of person to travel. I really hope that when I have a family I can travel a lot with them and be able to kind of move around."
