Jeanne Little’s sad life with Alzheimer's

Australian showbiz icon Jeanne Little was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease back in 2009, and now her daughter Katie has shared an update on her famous mother's health.

Appearing on Channel Seven's The Morning Show on Friday, Katie revealed as heartbreaking as it is to see her mum suffer this condition, she sees one positive.

"She’s ok, the only blessing is she doesn’t know what’s going on so she just kind of lies there a lot now and sort of drifts in and out of sleep," Katie told the show's hosts Kylie Gillies and Larry Emdur.

According to Alzheimer's Australia, Alzheimer's disease is a common form of dementia that "damages the brain, resulting in impaired memory, thinking and behaviour".

Seeing her Logie award-winning mum face this has not been easy for Katie.

"I do think, 'God it’s such a horrible illness', it just goes on and on and on and you think, 'Gosh this is going to go on for years and years and years'," she said.

"Dementia doesn’t just affect the person who’s got it, it also has such a huge impact one everyone in your life and all the family and everything too," she added.

Appearing on the talk show to raise awareness about the start of Dementia Awareness Month, Katie confirmed her father Barry is now staying in the same nursing home as Jeanne.

"It’s so fantastic now he’s in the same nursing home as mum," she said, explaining they're not in the same room but at least they have daily contact.
