Why Katie and Jamie kept romance a secret
They're believed to have been dating since 2013, so why did it take Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx, who were pictured holding hands this week, so long to go public with their romance?
According to new reports, Katie's ex-husband Tom Cruise, whom she split from in 2012, has a lot to do with it.
RadarOnline reports of the alleged divorce deal between Katie and Tom, which prevented the actress from dating another man for five years, in exchange for financial support.
Apparently the couple had decided that Katie would stay single, and in return she would receive $5.8 million in child support and $6.2 million payment for herself.
An insider tells the publication: "Katie signed a clause in her quickie divorce settlement that prevents her from embarrassing Tom in various ways, like talking about him or Scientology, or publicly dating another man for five years after the divorce.
"She’s allowed to date, but she cannot do so in a public fashion, and she’s not supposed to let any boyfriend near their daughter, Suri."
Katie and Jamie the knot in 2006 but eventually divorced in 2012 and have a child together, Suri.
Back in May, Woman's Day magazine reported a similar story, alleging Katie had kept quiet about her relationship with Jamie because of a contract between her and ex Tom.
According to the publication, the contract "stated that the actress would not publicly step out with another man for five years, in exchange for full custody of the couple's now 11-year-old daughter, Suri".
Despite Katie keeping her lips sealed, there's been plenty of speculation since 2013 that she and Jamie are an item.
Back in 2013 Jamie strongly denied any romance after the pair were seen hitting the dance floor together at a Hamptons event.
"[The rumors] are one hundred percent not true. In fact, it’s quite hilarious because we simply danced at a charity event along with a lot of other people," he told Entertainment Tonight.
Thn two years later, he was forced to address the rumours again, as a photo of the pair holding hands in a recording studio emerged.
He told TMZ at the time: "Oh come on you guys have been trying to make that stick for three years, we’re just friends".

Earlier this week the pair seemed to confirm their romance, when photos emerged of them holding hands in public as they strolled along a beach.
The images, which surfaced online, showed the pair out for a beach day outing in their home state of California.
