What will happen to Hugh's Playboy mansion?

Following his death at the age of 91, Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner has left behind a legacy.

Last year his famous Playboy mansion in Beverly Hills, LA, was sold for more than $US100 million ($135.8 million), the buyer being 33-year-old investor Daren Metropoulos.

He agreed that Hugh could continue staying in the home he's been living in since 1971, but now there is the question as to what Darren's plans are for the extravagant seven-room abode where Hugh and his bevy of busty beauties spent plenty of time.

The iconic Playboy mansion is where Hugh spent his final moments. The seven-bedroom property features eight bathrooms, a home theatre, gym, tennis court, swimming pool, home theatre and a man-made cave.

Daren, the son of billionaire Dean Metropoulos, has been living next to the Playboy mansion since 2009.

"For the last 45 years, Mr. Hefner has imbued the estate with a rich and storied legacy," Daren said in a statement last year when purchasing the mansion.

"The property's heritage is not only that of a famous address; it is a true masterpiece in design."

Daren and Dean's company Metropoulos & Co has made headlines in the past. Four years ago the company "won the bid to buy Hostess Brands out of bankruptcy court via a joint venture", reports CNN.

Meanwhile earlier this month the Playboy Bunny ranch located opposite the Hollywood Hills mansion was sold to an unidentified buyer for $17.25 million, reports The Sun.

Spanning across 1.3 acres, the five-bedroom property was the ultimate haven for Hugh and his playmates.

There's a "Fusgie the Whale" shaped pool, a rock waterfall, dining room, game room and bar to attend to all of the bunnies' needs.

On Wednesday it was confirmed that the star had passed away at the age of 91.
