He managed to impress Sophie Monk from the very start by nabbing the special double delight rose on the first night.

But is The Bachelorette contestant Sam Cochrane's strong connection with Sophie Monk due to some shared chemistry before the show?

New reports claim the pair had a "brief fling" before meeting on the set of the Channel Ten reality program, and it's their previous connection that explains Sam's "confidence".

"Sam previously had a thing with Sophie Monk, hence his confidence and cockiness straight away," an insider has told Daily Mail Australia.

Up until now, Sam and Sophie have had a testy relationship on the show.

While Sophie was initially impressed with Sam on the first night, she was disappointed that he admitted to staring at her 'cans' during the second group date.

However, after explaining to the blonde beauty that he uses 'humour' to cover up his insecurities, the ponytailed voice artist managed to get back into Sophie's good books and landed the first of his two guaranteed single dates during Thursday night's episode.

After a session of baking red velvet cupcakes, Sam was in for an even sweeter treat when Soph gave him another rose.

Well, time will tell if these two lovebirds are forever.

The Bachelorette airs on Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30pm on Channel Ten.
