Kathy Griffin dons Trump mask on stage

She made headlines earlier this year for her controversial shoot which involved her holding a severed head that appeared to resemble US President Donald Trump.

And as she makes her return to the comedy scene, Kathy Griffin is not shying away from politics or controversy.

The 56-year-old took to the stage this week, greeting a live audience at a Los Angeles drag show by sporting a Trump mask and putting her middle fingers up.

She waved to the audience before pulling off the mask, revealing her face with the widest smile planted across it.

The comedian steered away from actually speaking too much about Trump, and instead focused on the latest controversy in Hollywood, surrounding film studio executive Harvey Weinstein and allegations of sexual misconduct.

"The Weinstein thing is just f***ing unbelievable, but I’m not afraid to say anything because I don’t appear in movies ever and no one will ever put me in one," she said.

"That guy seems to be what’s called a rapist. I’m using it as a broad term. There’s a lot of them, and they are everywhere.

"So it’s time we started to f***ng look out for each other because this sh*t has been going on for way too long."

Several claims have recently emerged that Harvey Weinstein sexually harassed a number of female employees for almost three decades.

The 65-year-old award-winning film producer was fired from his own company - The Weinstein Company - with the board of directors saying "in light of new information about misconduct" Harvey no longer had a role at the company, which he founded in 2005 with his brother Robert Weinstein.

"In light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days, the directors of The Weinstein Company -- Robert Weinstein, Lance Maerov, Richard Koenigsberg and Tarak Ben Ammar -- have determined, and have informed Harvey Weinstein, that his employment with The Weinstein Company is terminated, effective immediately," the company said in a statement.
