Hollywood's men who've spoken out against Harvey Weinstein

Harvey Weinstein has made headlines as of late, following claims he sexually harassed a number of female employees for almost three decades.

And while a string of women in Hollywood have broken their silence, it's only now that some big name male movie stars are coming forward to make a comment.

George Clooney has called Weinstein's behaviour "indefensible", while Ben Affleck says he's "saddened and angry" by it.

Actor Matt Damon says he never saw it happen during his time working with Weinstein, and that if he had, he would've stepped in to try and put a stop to it.

The 47-year-old was dragged into the scandal earlier this week, when it was reported he and Russell Crowe called a New York Times reporter, and asked her to destroy a story about his inappropriate sexual behaviour.

That reporter Sharon Waxman says she had been working on an article about Weinstein which involved Fabrizio Lombardo, head of Italy’s Miramax office, who allegedly got women for his boss.

Damon has told Deadline that his link to it has been misconstrued.

"I just remember it being a negative piece, a hit job on Fabrizio, was what Harvey was saying," he told the publication.

"Basically, that he had no professional experience. Harvey said, you worked with him. Can you tell her that he was a professional and you had a good experience? And that was it. I didn’t mind doing it, because that was all true."

Also commenting on the allegations against Weinstein, Damon added: "If there was ever an event that I was at and Harvey was doing this kind of thing and I didn’t see it, then I am so deeply sorry, because I would have stopped it".

Meanwhile George Clooney has admitted he had heard rumours about Weinstein's inappropriate behaviour from as far back as the 1990s.

“I’ve heard rumors, and the rumors, in general, started back in the ’90s, and they were that certain actresses had slept with Harvey to get a role," he told The Daily Beast.

"It seemed like a way to smear the actresses and demean them by saying that they didn’t get the jobs based on their talent, so I took those rumors with a grain of salt. But the other part of this, the part we’re hearing now about eight women being paid off, I didn’t hear anything about that and I don’t know anyone that did.

"That’s a whole other level and there’s no way you can reconcile that. There’s nothing to say except that it’s indefensible," he said.

Ben Affleck has also spoken out, sharing a post on social media condemning Weinstein.

"I am saddened and angry that a man who I worked with used his position of power to intimidate, sexually harass and manipulate many women over decades," he wrote on Facebook.

"The additional allegations of assault that I read this morning made me sick. This is completely unacceptable, and I find myself asking what I can do to make sure this doesn’t happen to others.

"We need to do better at protecting our sisters, friends, co-workers and daughters. We must support those who come forward, condemn this type of behavior when we see it and help ensure there are more women in positions of power."

Mark Ruffalo has also taken to social media, tweeting: "To be clear what Harvey Weinstein did was a disgusting abuse of power and horrible.

"I hope we are now seeing the beginning of the end of these abuses."

Brad Pitt has also confirmed that he once confronted alleged sexual predator Weinstein over his behaviour.

The Troy actor says that he leapt to the defence of his then-girlfriend, Gwyneth Paltrow, in the 1990s when she told him about an incident where she claimed the movie mogul had sexually propositioned her.

Hollywood superstar Gwyneth has worked with Weinstein several times over the years, including on Oscar winning Shakespeare In Love.

The 45-year-old sensationally came forward as one of his alleged victims, telling The New York Times she had been victim to Weinstein's sexual misconduct when she was 22.

After describing an event where she revealed that producer Weinstein grabbed her and tried to lead her into a bedroom to have a joint massage in his hotel, she said she told Brad about it, and he later confronted him.

Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson tweeted: “My heart breaks for everyone who was hurt by this man.

"As [an] actor, a human & a feminist I am standing in support. Always have. Always will."

Speaking at the Rape Foundation brunch on Sunday, This Is Us actor Milo Ventimiglia said: "Men have a great responsibility in general.

"We need to show compassion, strength, understanding and communication."

And it's not just actors who have spoken out, as Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn to not only condemn Weinstein, but speak of the widespread sexual harrassment culture in Hollywood and beyond.

"As we’ve discovered lately with the numerous sexual allegations against Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, Roger Ailes, and Bill O’Reilly, sexual predators have no political affiliation," he wrote on Facebook.

"They are Republicans, Democrats, Communists, Nazis, Green Party, Whigs, and whatever-the-hell-else is out there. But they also know no status or occupation.

"Yesterday, I tweeted that if even 1/10 of the stories about Harvey Weinstein are true, and I believe they are, then good f**king riddance. F**k him and everyone who enabled him to get away with such behavior. The tweets got a lot of news coverage and I got a lot of responses.

"One of the primary responses was that sexual predation is a terrible problem... for Hollywood. Well, yes, that’s true. Sexual predation is rife in Hollywood. But it’s also rife EVERYWHERE," he wrote.
