Is Erin Molan getting groomed to be the next Lisa Wilkinson?

Less than 24 hours after Lisa Wilkinson announced her departure from Channel Nine, more changes to the network have been reported.

According to The Daily Telegraph , the format of the NRL Footy Show will undergo a revamp, and female host Erin Molan will be getting her own television show, while the program's long-time male host Paul 'Fatty' Vautin is apparently getting the boot.

It also suggests that replacing 58-year-old Paul with a promoted 35-year-old Erin "is a tactical manoeuvre by the network to win back female fans" after many have switched to Fox Sports, which counts Yvonne Sampson and Lara Pitt amongst its stable of female reporters.

Long-time host Paul has reportedly been told he will be restricted to commentary duties in 2018, while he remains on contract with the network.

"I’m not sure what the show will look like next year but I am so grateful for the past six seasons alongside Fatty, Big Marn, Beau and Glenn (Pallister) and the whole team," Erin is reported as saying.

"I love them. They couldn’t have treated me better or made me feel more welcome. They are family and whatever happens always will be."

On Monday evening Erin reacted to Lisa Wilkinson's announcement she was leaving Channel Nine.

"Wonderful role model for all women in the media. You will be greatly missed @Lisa_Wilkinson Thank you for all the advice, love and support x" she wrote on Twitter.

Lisa is set to take up a role at Channel Ten next year on The Project, alongside Waleed Aly, Carrie Bickmore and Peter Helliar.
