Was Kevin Spacey talking about sexual assault in this speech?

Kevin Spacey was accused of sexual misconduct earlier this week by a fellow actor Anthony Rapp, who said Spacey made sexual advances on the then 14-year-old in 1986.

Now footage of Spacey's 2000 Oscar acceptance has re-emerged with some people suggesting the speech hinted at his alleged past behaviour.

Taking to the stage in 2000 to collect the Academy Award for best actor for his role in American Beauty, Spacey said it was his friends who pointed out his "worst qualities".

"To my friends, for pointing out my worst qualities," he said on stage.

"I know you do it because you love me. And that’s why I loved playing Lester, because we got to see all of his worst qualities and we still grew to love him."

Spacey played Lester Burnham in the flick, an older man obsessed with his teenage daughter’s beautiful friend Angela, played by Mena Suvari.

Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp claimed Spacey made sexual advances on him when he was just 14-years-old.

Rapp, who is now 46-years-old, told Buzzfeed that the House of Cards actor invited him to his New York City apartment party back in 1986, when they were both working in Broadway shows.

Spacey apologised to Rapp on social media, however, he was slammed for coming out as gay in the same post and accused of "deflecting" from the allegations.
